Manchester United arrived at Stamford Bridge on Saturday and left with all three points.
Chelsea's failure to beat the Red Devils saw them lose their fourth consecutive Premier League match and fall an almost-unrecoverable 10 points behind fourth-place Aston Villa.
Worringly, the Blues also failed to score a goal in a league match... again.
The last time match-going Chelsea fans celebrated the side scoring in the league was during their 4-1 win over Aston Villa over six weeks ago!
Liam Delap admits Chelsea's inability to score is a big concern
Judging by what striker Liam Delap, who started in place of the injured Joao Pedro on Saturday, said immediately after the crushing defeat, it's not hard to see why the team are struggling so much.
Speaking to Chelsea's official website after his side's latest loss, Delap, who joined from Ipswich for £30 million less than 12 months ago, made a surprise revelation, admitting his failure to find the back of the net is costing his teammates big time.
"It’s really disappointing because we feel we didn’t deserve that.
We were the better team. It’s a horrible feeling. Obviously we had one man go off and we needed to switch on and defend that moment, and we didn’t.
On another day we score four in the second half, but it was just one of those days. It's not like we're not creating chances. We're creating plenty of chances, but it's just that fine tweaking of our finishing and it going in.
We’re frustrated, but it’s on us and we have to put it right. We've got a big chance to do that on Tuesday."
Delap's comments make for a shocking admission, especially coming from a player who was bought in to solve that exact conundrum.
Time for BlueCo to recognise Delap has been a failed signing
Although Delap suffered an unfortunate injury at the start of the campaign, there is no doubting he has been a major disappointment since leaving Portman Road last summer.
There were hopes a big move to Stamford Bridge could help put the 23-year-old in contention to go to this summer's 2026 World Cup in America. That won't be happening though, and, as a result, Delap could even switch his international allegiance to the Republic of Ireland.
The striker has featured in over 40 matches since his big money move but has managed to score just three goals.
The struggling Englishman is undoubtedly Liam Rosenior's biggest problem and one the Chelsea head coach must find a solution for sooner rather than later.
