It feels like chaos always surrounds Chelsea, for one reason or another. Whether it be a change of ownership, a complete overhaul of the identity of the club, constant change in managers, significant spending in the transfer market or something else, the Blues always remain in the headlines for both the right and the wrong reasons. And it looks like the is set to continue, especially after recent events.
As reported by ESPN, Chelsea have been charged with 74 breaches of Football Association (FA) rules. It is related to agents, intermediaries and third-party investment in players.
It is worth pointing out that these are historical charges, and were self-reported by Chelsea during due diligence before Clearlake-Boehly officially took charge. The club have opened up their books to The FA and the majority of the breaches are believed to have taken place between 2010 and 2016. The Blues do not believe that there has been any sporting advantage, and as a result, will argue that no sporting sanction is necessary.
As reported by Ben Jacobs, punishments can range from a fine to a settlement to a sporting sanction. But Chelsea will wait for The FA's process to run its course, including determining any potential punishment, before taking next steps, rather than making any argument first relating to sporting sanctions.
What punishment could Chelsea face for 74 breaches of FA rules
It remains to be seen how this situation will unfold. Chelsea fans will be hoping that no punishments are handed out, that will have an effect on their performances on the pitch, whether that be some kind of points deduction or a transfer ban.
Of course, Chelsea have faced other issues in recent years as well. Earlier this year, they were fined €31 million by UEFA for breaking financial monitoring rules.
Hopefully, Chelsea will be able to get past this matter without any major issues for the team. Let's hope for the best.
