Andrey Santos is set to become the third Chelsea player to leave the club this summer.
Marc Cucurella has already moved to Real Madrid with Tyrique George joining Everton; both on permanent deals, and Santos will soon follow suit.
The 22-year-old hoped to still be a Blues player next season, but unlikely to become a first team regular following Moises Caicedo decision to extend his contract, the midfielder has been forced to accept a move elsewhere.
Chelsea reach Andrey Santos agreement with Manchester United
Manchester United are in a similar position to Chelsea this summer. The Red Devils need multiple new signings with their midfield a particular area of focus following Casemiro's exit at the end of last season.
Consequently, the 20-time league champions have been working hard trying to bring in a new central and defensively minded midfielder.
They were strongly linked with Elliot Anderson but couldn't rival Manchester City's eye watering £116 million offer. The same thing happened with Matheus Fernandes. The Red Devils were out bid by Spurs after they agreed to pay the full £85 million upfront.
Those setbacks have forced Michael Carrick to go after Santos, and a deal has progressed at rapid speed with United recently agreeing a deal worth £50 million with Chelsea.
According to BBC Sport, the deal includes £48 million up front with £2 million in 'achievable' add-ons and a 10 per cent sell-on clause.
When Santos will have his Manchester United medical
Keen to get the Brazilian in as soon as possible because they lack options in midfield ahead of their pre-season tour, Manchester United have already arranged for the 22-year-old to have a medical.
According to Fabrizio Romano, who updated fans on his YouTube channel, Santos is set to undergo the first part his medical on Thursday.
"The player is going to Manchester tomorrow (Thursday) for medical tests and contract signing," the Italian journalist said.
“And so, Andrey Santos to Manchester United is a ‘here we go'.
Assuming there are no hiccups in his medical, Santos should be unveilled as the Red Devils second signing of the summer after Ederson before the start of next week.
It remains to be seen which shirt number he will be assigned but the recently departed Casemiro wore the now-vacant number 18.
During his time at Stamford Bridge, Santos, who joined from Brazilian side Vasco de Gama three years ago, has scored three goals and provided five assists in 47 matches in all competitions.
The South American leaves west London having won the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
