William Gallas 'can picture' £40m Man United star joining Chelsea

Chelsea are set for an important summer transfer window with multiple incomings and outgoings expected.

The Blues confirmed Xabi Alonso will be their new manager next season with the Spaniard preparing to take charge from July 1.

And top of Alonso's agenda will be clear out the deadwood and bring in players suitable for his system and style of play.

The problem the Blues face is that their failure to qualify for European football next season means they'll need to get creative in the market because signing world class players at the absolute pinnacle of their game is going to be difficult.

Former defender William Gallas thinks one Manchester United player is not only a realistic target, but one who would really benefit from a move to Stamford Bridge.

William Gallas thinks Man United star could be perfect fit for Chelsea

Marcus Rashford's time at Old Trafford looks to be coming to an end. He has already been linked with a summer move to Chelsea.

The 28-year-old spent last season out on loan with Barcelona, but despite doing well, has so far failed to make the move permanent with the Catalan giants opting to sign Anthony Gordon instead.

And Gallas thinks the continued uncertainty surrounding the Red Devils' academy graduate should encourage Chelsea to finally make a move.

"I think Marcus Rashford did well at Barcelona," Gallas told talkSPORT Bet (via Metro).

"They had a good system. I’m surprised he didn’t sign for them permanently, I don’t know what happened.

"I would say Chelsea would be a better fit given how they play. I’m sure he wanted to stay in Barcelona, but it didn’t happen.

"If he has to come back to the Premier League, or maybe go somewhere else like Italy, we will see. But I could picture him at Chelsea."

Rashford, currently away with England at the 2026 World Cup, has just two years left on his contract and is valued at £40 million.

Gallas drops another name

Rashford wasn't the only player the former Chelsea defender name checked.

Looking ahead at the Blues' lack of firepower next season, the retired Frenchman believes neither Liam Delap nor Nicolas Jackson are the right men to lead the line.

"He [Jackson] had his opportunity to be the number one and didn’t fully take it," Gallas added.

"I’m not sure if he is the right guy. To be the right player, you have to score important goals. In the game between Senegal and France, he had a big chance to score and hit the post. His movement was great, but you are asked to score to make the difference, and he didn’t.

"I can see him doing well in spells, but can he do it for a whole season? I don’t know."

When asked which player Chelsea should target if Alonso decides to go all out for a new striker, Gallas named Galatasaray's Victor Osimhen as his preferred pick.

"I still wonder why he didn’t come to Chelsea or the Premier League," he said.

"He has a great profile for it. We are still waiting for him, he would be a great choice and have a huge impact."

During his two years in Turkey, Osimhen, who has three years left on his contract, has scored 59 goals and provided 16 assists in 74 matches in all competitions.
