Chelsea supporters have been desperate to see more of Estevao Willian this season, with calls and even petitions for the Brazilian youngster to be given more opportunities on the pitch.

Frustration for the fan favourite has grown to the point where some fans have started to fear that a lack of playing time could lead to a January loan move. However, Xabi Alonso has made it clear that Estevao is not going anywhere, dismissing suggestions that he could leave Chelsea midway through the season.

Despite playing just 172 minutes of football this season, including 80 against Luton, there appears to be no immediate plan to send Estevao out on loan. It was a possibility put to the Spaniard during his press conference, but Alonso was quick to dismiss the suggestion.

"No, no discussions about that."

That should come as welcome news to supporters who have been calling for the 19-year-old to play a bigger role in the first team. For those in the Matthew Harding Stand chanting his name or waving the yellow and green flag in his honour, patience may be required.

Alonso addressed the situation during his latest press conference, insisting that Estevao will get his opportunities as the season progresses.

"Yeah, sure, he will play. The season is long and there will be moments for everyone. It's a process for the team, for Este, for myself, but I'm sure that in the season he will have his games, his minutes. And we are still early in the season, but he will be there."

The Chelsea manager also dismissed suggestions that Estevao’s lack of playing time was down to his attitude in training, instead praising the youngster’s approach and willingness to adapt. That familiar smile never seems to leave the Brazilian’s face, and he appears to remain happy at the club despite his limited opportunities.

"Yeah, it's not about attitude. It's been about the context of games, it's been about the start of the season, and he's a great guy. He really wants his adaptation after the first year of injury, but we are still in October and he will be important."

Estevao has already offered glimpses of his enormous potential, while Chelsea supporters have also been impressed by his professionalism. They will be hoping to see more of both as his appearances become increasingly regular.

There is little point signing one of Brazil's brightest young talents only to leave him watching from the sidelines. Alonso now needs to turn his encouraging words into meaningful minutes on the pitch.
