Chelsea FC Take On Arsenal: 5 Previous Meetings
Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal, 5th October 2015
The Blues won last season’s fixture at Stamford Bridge 2-0, with goals from Eden Hazard and Diego Costa cementing Chelsea’s position at the top of the league early on. After a first half penalty from the Belgian, Costa would kill the game late in the second half with his ninth goal in seven Blues games. It was overall a solid performance from the hosts, who survived the loss of goalkeeper Courtois early on before marching to victory.

However, events on the pitch were overshadowed by those off it. After Cahill’s poor challenge on Arsenal winger Alexis Sanchez, Wenger made his feelings felt by rushing over to Mourinho’s technical area and shoving him in the chest. The ugly encounter was quickly quashed by intervention from the fourth official, but tensions still ran high.
The altercation was probably one of the more memorable moments of what was a pretty dire 2014/15 Premier League campaign and highlighted the animosity between the pair. Jose, at least, has been trying to rebuild some feeling of respect since the incident, but his offer of a handshake was ignored by his French counterpart after August’s Community Shield.
It was Mourinho, though, who had the last laugh on this October day, taking all three points from the match.
