Chelsea FC Finally Get Rid Of Mohamed Salah

One of the most irritatingly complicated transfer sagas in history has now reached its end.

Mohamed Salah was officially sold by Chelsea FC yesterday as Italian outfit AS Roma exercised an option in the winger’s loan deal to make the move permanent. That finally means I will no longer feel any professional guilt in ignoring further stories regarding the Egyptian, Fiorentina and a court battle.

Chelsea have not officially announced his departure themselves, but the Italian club have done so in their financial statements.

"Amongst the most important agreements of the 2014/15 summer transfer window is the signing of Dzeko from Manchester City, Salah from Chelsea and (Iago) Falque from Genoa. These players were first signed on a temporary basis, which has been transformed into definitive transfers after planned contractual conditions were met.Source: The Express"

Roma are a publically traded entity and thus they are required to disclose such deals in their financial reports. The club have been listed on the Italian stock exchange (Borsa Italiana) since 2011 and are forced to publish such details on a regular basis.

Interestingly, Salah’s permanent move has not been acknowledged on the club’s website, nor any of their social media accounts. It was the eagle-eyed financiers who spotted the announcement within their documents.

Salah joined Chelsea in January 2014, after scoring multiple goals against them in European play. However, he was never able to establish himself in the Blues squad and was sent out to Fiorentina on loan by February of the following year.

He managed to find form again in Italy, so much so that La Viola opted to exercise the clause that made his loan deal permanent. This is where the problems began.

Salah refused to agree to the permanent Fiorentina switch which led to the Italian club believing that they had legal rights over his contract. Much debate and hoopla ensued involving Fiorentina giving up, Chelsea offering them compensation and most recently FIFA launching an investigation.

While all this was going on, the Egyptian did agree a loan move to Roma where he has once again been able to showcase his potential. Eight appearances have yielded three goals so far and his performances have been impressive enough for Rudi Garcia to make his move permanent.

Personally, I’m quite relieved by this revelation. Salah was evidently not part of Jose Mourinho’s plans yet his transfer saga dominated the news for much of the summer. Now that he is officially no longer a Chelsea player, we can all move on.

Having said that, with Chelsea in such a tricky spot at the moment, perhaps the Blues could have used the Egyptian? The incumbent wingers (Eden Hazard, Pedro) have been dire and the club have really been lacking some sort of creative spark. If only Salah’s three goals could have come in a Yokohama-branded shirt.

That’s just talking nonsense, though. The players in the Chelsea squad are superior to Salah, they’re simply not performing to their capabilities. Furthermore, Salah was pretty average for the time that was here anyway.

Oh well.
