1. Chelsea nearing first signing of the Todd Boehly era

Finally, all Chelsea fans can somewhat settle down as the club is on the verge of completing and announcing the transfer of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City for a total fee of around £47.5 million. The 27-year-old is inching closer to a move to Stamford Bridge after finalizing personal terms with the Blues earlier this week. His new contract with the west London club will see him earn in excess of £300,000 a week, which makes him the highest-earning player in SW6.

The Man City star is set to put pen to paper on a five-year deal with the option to extend for a further 12 months at the end of the contract. It was said that the conversations between Thomas Tuchel and Sterling were positive after he laid out his ambitions. Further, Tuchel informed Sterling about how he plans to utilize the winger if a move to Chelsea could be agreed. The squad has already jetted off to its preseason tour in America, Sterling is set to join his new teammates before the first preseason game against Club America in Las Vegas. The veteran has already completed his medical and it is said that the official announcement will take place imminently.

Unfortunately, Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital’s first signing has divided the fanbase as supporters aren’t sure what to make of Sterling’s addition. Personally, I feel as if getting the chance to sign a player who has made more than 300 Premier League appearances and won a plethora of major trophies—including four Premier League titles—is a great thing. Sterling will bring in loads of experience and add goals to an attacking line of Chelsea that has been very inconsistent in the last few seasons.

Sterling is in his prime and with his ability to play anywhere in the front line, the German coach should be able to make his attacking unit a bit more fluid and interchangeable, making it difficult for the opposing defenders to mark. With Tuchel pushing for the signing of Sterling, expect him to be an integral part of the starting line-up next season and even for the foreseeable future.
