Cesar Azpilicueta (No. 28) Right wingback, Spain

The captain did not feature against Brighton, which many suggest was for tactical reasons. He is a defensive-minded defensive player though, and the Blues didn’t have enough of those on the pitch against Brighton. Chelsea has gotten themselves in a real jam because they refused to get a backup for Reece James in the transfer window, which means they have to work with what they have.

Conor Gallagher (No. 23) Central midfielder, England

Gallagher was very good against Brighton, perhaps the only bright spot on the day. He created CFC’s only clear cut chance in that match. His distribution and crossing were very good.

Jorginho (No. 5) Central midfielder, Italy

Jorginho is likely to only play about 60 minutes and be subbed off to be rested for the Arsenal game. The hope is that the Blues would be in a comfortable enough position to take him off. He was missed in that game against Brighton, and it was glaring for even his detractors to see.

Christian Pulisic (No. 10) Left attacking midfielder, United States

Pulisic was given a chance to start, but he was given the chance as a right-wide midfielder, who was expected to be an outright winger by his manager but was also expected to be a wingback according to the role. This meant the young man would have been found wanting on at least one count, but on the day he was found wanting on both counts. A run-out in a more preferred position may be beneficial to him.

Mason Mount (No. 19) Right attacking midfielder, England

Mount was as poor as the rest of his teammates, which is more of the same of what many fans saw last season. He was poor for large parts of that season too, like he has been for most of this season. However, this game was as much (maybe more) a system failure as it was a personnel underperformance.

Must Read. 3 Things Potter got wrong vs Brighton and must resolve. light

Armando Broja (No. 18) Center forward, Albania

Broja played 11 minutes against the seaside side, in which he did nothing much except to win the 2/3 duels he contested. If him being picked to do the presser is any indication, then Potter is preparing to give him a start in the UEFA Champions League.
