Chelsea’s transfer window has been a progressive one, with new manager Xabi Alonso already putting his stamp on the squad and shaping the club’s future. A significant number of players have been moved on from the so-called “bomb squad” and unwanted list, creating room for a new-look Chelsea side.
The exit door has been busy, but so too has the entrance, with plenty of new faces arriving at Stamford Bridge. Morgan Rogers, Maxence Lacroix, Marco Palestra, Pep Chavarria, Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson are among the new additions.
However, there could still be more arrivals before the Premier League season gets underway at Craven Cottage on Monday Night Football. So, who could be the next player to walk through the door and become a new Blue under the West London lights?
Alex Scott
The AFC Bournemouth midfielder was one of Chelsea’s main targets this summer, but the south coast club made it clear that he was not for sale, reportedly rejecting a £60 million bid from the Blues. However, should Enzo Fernández leave for Manchester City despite the transfer deadline passing, Chelsea could revisit their interest in Scott with an improved offer for the England youth international.
Scott would provide a natural replacement for Fernández, offering a strong balance between defensive work and attacking contribution. His ability to carry the ball could also give Chelsea an added dimension in midfield, while his age and potential give him a higher long-term ceiling. Fernández, however, remains the more established star based on his current ability.
Whether Chelsea can get a deal over the line so close to the Premier League opener remains to be seen.
Lamine Camara
A decent replacement to the one above should it all fail but the Senegal international, who was at the World Cup, is a typical box-to-box midfielder who has been wanted to several Premier League sides.
Camara has emerged as one of Monaco’s most versatile midfielders, capable of operating as a No.6, No.8 or further forward. The Senegal international combines defensive work with progressive passing and ball carrying, while his ability to dictate play from deeper positions could make him an intriguing option for Chelsea.
At Stamford Bridge, Camara could provide greater mobility and progression alongside a more defensive midfielder, allowing him to push forward and support the attack. His 2025/26 Ligue 1 campaign produced three goals and four assists, highlighting his ability to contribute in the final third. With his versatility and long-term potential, Camara could fit naturally into Xabi Alonso’s midfield.
Emi Martinez
A target that hasn’t been linked but you could argue it makes complete sense.
The Argentine No.1 has wanted to leave Aston Villa for the last couple of years and has been increasingly linked with a move away. Juventus had emerged as a potential destination, but the Italian giants have reportedly turned their attention to Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario instead. With the goalkeeper position remaining a significant talking point at Chelsea, particularly amid criticism of Robert Sánchez from fans and pundits, Martínez could provide an experienced short-term solution.
While his form has dipped from the heights of his 2022 World Cup triumph, Martínez still offers proven Premier League experience and elite shot-stopping ability. He would provide immediate competition for Sánchez and Mike Penders, while his leadership and experience as Villa captain could also add an important voice to Chelsea’s dressing room.
Martínez fits the profile of goalkeeper Chelsea want for the long term, adding to the experienced spine of Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson. At 33, he would represent a very different strategy to the club’s recent focus on signing younger players with significant resale value. If the Blues are looking for a proven presence to stabilise the position while Penders develops, though, Martínez could make sense as a short-term option.
