Following the announcement of Liam Delap as the club’s new number nine, Chelsea have turned their attention to strengthening the wing position. Their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens has unfortunately dragged on. Although the player is believed to have agreed to personal terms, a transfer fee has not been agreed with his club.

Chelsea are leaving no stone unturned to secure a reinforcement for the left flank ahead of the Club World Cup. As a result, the Blues could now end up considering alternative targets in case the Gittens deal continues to get delayed any further. And it appears they already have someone in mind.

Alejandro Garnacho has been on Chelsea’s radar for quite some time now. And his Manchester United exit has become pretty inevitable.

While speaking to DAZN, Fabrizio Romano stated that the Blues have not yet ruled out the possibility of bringing in the Argentine international, especially if Gittens doesn't sign by Tuesday. The Italian journalist has said:

"It’s a possibility, because as we say Garnacho will leave Manchester United, he will go, that’s for sure. I keep receiving information that Garnacho’s priority is to stay in the Premier League.

“I give a 35% chance of this today, because for the Club World Cup I don’t see this happen, the priority is Gittens from Borussia Dortmund, but Garnacho remains a player appreciated by Chelsea."

The Blues previously attempted to sign Garnacho during the winter transfer window but failed to get the deal over the line. However, circumstances have changed since then. With Ruben Amorim not believed to be a fan, the Argentine's departure from Manchester United now seems to be a matter of when, not if.

Garnacho is rumoured to be keen to join the Blues this summer. His familiarity with the Premier League is an added advantage, and he has also been involved in a slightly higher number of goals than Gittens, although he has played a few more games as well.

However, Garnacho’s form this season has been far from his true potential. Once regarded as one of the most promising youngsters in world football, he has faced criticism lately.

That being said, both Garnacho and Gittens are incredible talents and signing either of them will be a major boost to the squad. Only time will tell which of these two youngsters finally gets to wear the Royal Blue jersey.
