Chelsea are through to the Round of 16 in the Club World Cup after picking up an easy 3-0 win against ES Tunis. The Blues are now set to face Benfica for a place in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, in the background, club officials have continued their efforts to bring in multiple new faces to bolster the squad ahead of next season.

The left flank still remains one of the key areas which Chelsea will need to strengthen following the return of Jadon Sancho to Manchester United. The club has already identified Jamie Gittens as their primary target in their search for a right-footed winger.

They had tried to bring the youngster to Chelsea before the ongoing tournament. However, the Blues had failed to make any significant breakthrough in talks with Borussia Dortmund despite making multiple offers. That is until now.

It was earlier reported that the club were engaged in talks with the Bundesliga giants on the sidelines of the Club World Cup. Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are closing in on the deal for Gittens, and talks are at the final phases. Borussia Dortmund have started to work on the replacement.

Chelsea close to finalising a deal for Gittens

The Gittens transfer saga has been a long-drawn one. But it looks like the club’s patience may finally get rewarded.

Apart from Chelsea, clubs like Bayern Munich and Arsenal had also shown interest in Gittens. However, the youngster is believed to be keen to play only for the Blues, which has seemingly played a major role in the impending transfer. Hopefully, there are no more twists in this tale.

Gittens is expected to arrive on a seven-year deal, which had already been agreed with the player before the Club World Cup. With the move now closer than ever, Chelsea fans are eagerly waiting for Romano’s signature, “Here we go”.
