Chelsea are determined to reinforce their squad ahead of next season after a successful campaign saw them lift the UEFA Conference League and also secure a Champions League spot thanks to their fourth-place Premier League finish. However, despite the overall success, the season was far from perfect for the Blues.
They will look to overcome certain shortcomings to improve upon this season’s success and will need to make some additions to the squad in order to do that. The club has already shortlisted several players for various positions. The primary focus is mainly on the centre-back and forward positions.
Players like Mario Gila, Jorrel Hato, and Marc Guehi have already been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge when it comes to the centre-back position. But now, it looks like a new name has emerged in the rumour mill.
According to The Chelsea Chronicle, Simon Phillips has reported via his Substack, that the Blues have approached Jarrad Branthwaite’s representatives to enquire about a potential move. This initial contact with the defender could lead to more.
Chelsea interested in Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite
Chelsea’s interest in Branthwaite is not new. The Blues have been linked with the Everton standout as a potential candidate for the centre-back role since February.
The English international has impressed with his performances this season having appeared in 33 matches across all competitions for Everton. The Toffees have reportedly set a steep asking transfer fee of £80 million for him. As a result, bringing him to Stamford Bridge won’t be an easy task.
It is noteworthy that Manchester United have also been linked with for quite some time and could go back for him this summer as well as they try to find a way to get the team back on track. Having said that, do not rule Chelsea out in any transfer race.
