Chelsea are enjoying a successful period both on and off the field. The Blues have qualified for the quarter-finals of the Club World Cup following their 4–1 win against Benfica. Meanwhile, they have already made the signing of Joao Pedro official. And that’s not all, as it looks like they are on the path to announcing another in the coming days.

Chelsea have been pursuing the signature of Jamie Gittens since before the Club World Cup. After weeks of negotiations and speculation, reports suggested that the Blues had finally reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund for the player.

A breakthrough has indeed been made. The German giants have officially confirmed that Gittens is set to move to Stamford Bridge.

As reported by Borussia Dortmund on their official website, Gittens is on the verge of a transfer to Chelsea. All parties involved have agreed in principle on this. The contractual details are still being finalised. Sporting Director Sebastian Kehl said:

"Jamie is an excellent player who has brought us great joy. It was his wish to take the next step in his career at Chelsea, and we wish him all the very best and much success."

Gittens is currently appearing for Borussia Dortmund at the Club World Cup. Interestingly, the youngster has played just 13 minutes at the tournament, further highlighting his struggles under new coach Niko Kovac.

At Chelsea, Gittens is expected to be assigned a starting role, owing to the club’s current lack of quality left-wingers. The Blues are believed to be set to pay a £48.5 million fee along with £3.5 million add-ons for the English winger. He is set to arrive on a seven-year deal.

It’s now only a matter of time before the Blues complete their long-awaited signing. Fans are excited and hopeful that Gittens will make an immediate impact upon his arrival at the club. He has a lot of great qualities and is one of the best in the world when it comes to dribbling and progressing with the ball. But then again, his output in the final third needs a lot of improvement if he wants to hold down a starting spot at a club like Chelsea.
