Chelsea were relatively quiet in the initial weeks of the summer transfer window, but the signings are now coming in thick and fast. The club have recently made the signing of Joao Pedro official and are expected to bring in Jamie Gittens after the Club World Cup. And it looks like this is just the beginning of what promises to be an eventful time.
One might think Chelsea are done reinforcing their forward line. However, the Blues are reportedly looking to bring in another versatile player to further bolster their forward options.
The player in question is Mohammed Kudus. The West Ham United standout also happens to be on the radar of their city rivals, Tottenham Hotspur.
Fabrizio Romano (via Chelsea News) recently provided an update on Kudus in a video on YouTube. He said:
"Tottenham are seriously working for Mohammed Kudus and are speaking to his camp. Chelsea remains interested and is keeping a close eye on the situation with one other club. Let’s see what they decide. Race still open."
Chelsea still in race to sign Mohammed Kudus
Chelsea have been keeping an eye on Kudus since the beginning of the transfer window. The club reportedly also made an approach for the player but failed to secure the deal.
Kudus can play in a number of positions, including both wings and as a number 10. He has also occasionally played as a centre forward. With Gittens expected to arrive, and Cole Palmer and Pedro Neto currently operating in the other areas the Ghana international prefers, it remains to be seen how Enzo Maresca will utilise him if he arrives.
Kudus currently has a £85 million release clause. Also recently, West Ham reportedly rejected Tottenham’s offer worth £50 million, plus £5 million in add-ons for the player.
So it’s clear that Chelsea will have to shell out a significant figure if they wish to win the race to secure the player's signature. But even if they end up signing him him, is Kudus someone who will be a regular starter for the Blues?
