Chelsea are expecting a busy transfer window now that it has reopened. Not only do they have a number of arrivals lined up, but the club is also preparing to offload some players to make room for the new signings. The Blues have recently released as many as four academy players and are also looking to send some players out on loan or on a permanent basis.
Several Chelsea players, including Noni Madueke, Nicolas Jackson, and Josh Acheampong, have recently attracted interest from a number of top clubs. Now, another player has joined this list.
Chelsea centre-back Trevoh Chalobah is reportedly attracting interest from Serie A side Napoli. The 25-year-old defender played a major role in the second half of last season for the Blues, helping them secure a top four finish. However, his future at Stamford Bridge remains uncertain.
Chelsea News have reported that the Blues' manager Enzo Maresca has recently kept the door open for Chalobah’s exit with comments made during his pre-match conference. He said:
"All the players with us, I don’t want to lose them.
“But when the window is open, anything can happen. He helped us get a top four spot and we are happy with Trev, but anything can happen, for any of the 25 players in our squad."
Enzo Maresca keeps the door open for Chalobah’s Chelsea exit
Chalobah came through Chelsea’s academy ranks and was gradually promoted to the first-team in 2021. However, the centre-back has never truly succeeded in making himself a nailed-on starter for the Blues.
The club’s acquisition of players like Wesley Fofana, Tosin Adarabioyo and others hasn’t helped his case either. And as he is an academy graduate, a transfer would help Chelsea balance the books.
Chelsea are also looking to bring in a reliable centre-back ahead of next season. It will be interesting to see how the club plans ahead following the arrival of a new defender. As of yet, nothing is certain.
The club might part ways with Chalobah to make room, or they might even choose to keep the player as a backup option, given the increased number of games and their injury woes. Let's see what the future holds.
