Chelsea transfer news: Maxence Lacroix latest, Enzo Fernandez's replacement and more

Chelsea are hard at work during this summer's transfer window.

The Blues are expected to make multiple signings as well as sanction several exits including some high profile names.

Marc Cucurella has already moved to Real Madrid after the two clubs agreed a deal worth £52 million for the left-back. And Enzo Fernandez is another player who could follow his former teammate to the Bernabeu.

With this in mind, let's take a closer look at everything transfer-related that has been reported on this week...

Frenkie De Jong expected to replace Enzo Fernandez

There is no denying that Real Madrid would like to sign Fernandez but their biggest problem will be meeting Chelsea's huge £120 million valuation.

Jose Mourinho will have to sell before he can buy with Fede Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni among the names rumoured to be up for sale.

However, should Los Blancos free up funds and make the Blues an offer, according to reports, Xabi Alonso's preferred replacement for the Argentine is Barcelona's Frenkie De Jong.

Sporting director Deco is poised to fly to London to hold talks with Chelsea's ownership to understand the conditions of a potential deal.

A potential deal for De Jong is unlikely to progress beyond this stage unless Madrid make their move for Fernandez, though.

Maxence Lacroix close to joining after World Cup

Alonso's priority position in his first season at Stamford Bridge will be to sort out the defence.

The Spaniard could make two centre-back signings with the first looking likely to be Crystal Palace's Maxence Lacroix.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed earlier in the week that Chelsea are already working on the deal with French outlet L'Equipe suggesting a deal worth £47.5 million is close to being agreed with the player expecting to move to west London once the World Cup ends.

Man City put off by Malo Gusto's price tag

Enzo Maresca has yet to be officially unveiled as Manchester City's new manager, but it's football's worst kept secret that he will be.

It's simply a matter of time before the Italian succeeds Pep Guardiola at the Etihad, and among his list of right-back targets is Chelsea's Malo Gusto.

However, despite initial reports suggesting the Blues would demand 'at least £40 million' for the Frenchman — currently at the World Cup with Les Bleus — new reports have revealed that only a fee closer to £75 million would be enough to prise the 23-year-old away from Stamford Bridge.
