Chelsea recently announced the arrival of Estevao. The deal for the Brazilian international was agreed upon a long time back though. Their newest signing is Jorrel Hato and fans are eagerly awaiting for a move for Xavi Simons to progress. Before that, it looks like the Blues' focus is on completing some transfer exits. And one of them looks set to be on the verge of taking place.
Over the last few days, there has been plenty of news about the club agreeing to exits. The Blues have gotten a lot wrong since their change in ownership. But nobody can say that they have not been excellent when it comes to outgoings.
The latest of those is set to be none other than Marc Guiu. The former Barcelona striker is headed for the exit door, as he clearly needs to be somewhere where the chances of him getting game-time are much higher than they are at Stamford Bridge right now.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Guiu has completed his medical as a new Sunderland player today. It is a straight loan with no buy option clause.
'Completes his medical' - Fabrzio Romano confirms Chelsea transfer news
There is clearly no question about Guiu's potential. Even last season, he scored six goals in just 16 appearances for Chelsea. That being said, there are areas he needs to improve in as well.
One cannot overlook the fact that all six of those goals came in Europe. He is yet to find the back of the net in domestic competitions. So, Guiu needed to go to a club where he will get the chance to adjust to the English game.
Sunderland might be the perfect place to do that. The Premier League newcomers have been one of the most impressive teams in the summer transfer window and have given themselves a real chance of staying up with the business they have done. That being said, they are still at a point where you would expect someone like Guiu to get a decent bit of playing time.
That is the most important thing for Guiu right now. We have seen flashes of his quality at both Barcelona and Chelsea. But if he is to be someone that the Blues can rely on for an entire season, he will have to show it somewhere else first. Hopefully, Sunderland turns out to be that place for the Spaniard. But even if he fails to reach those heights, there is a good chance the club will be able to move him on for a transfer profit in the future. That is also part of this model.
