Enzo Maresca has kept a low profile since he left Chelsea at the start of the year.
Last season saw the 46-year-old guide the Blues to a top four finish and the UEFA Conference League before lifting the FIFA Club World Cup the following summer.
Maresca departed the Chelsea following a fall out with the club's ownership. His exit turned out to be a decision the likes of Marc Cucurella didn't agree with.
The Italian has been heavily linked with succeeding Pep Guardiola — his former mentor — at Manchester City. It remains to be seen if Guardiola will leave the Etihad at the end of the season, though.
Amid the uncertainty over where Maresca will manage next, former Inter Milan and Italy defender Marco Materazzi has urged him to consider replacing Arne Slot at Liverpool.
Marco Materazzi tells Enzo Maresca to take Liverpool job
Slot is under huge pressure at Anfield. The Reds are five points off fourth and face Champions League elimination after losing 2-0 away to PSG in the first leg of their quarter final tie.
With many fans calling for the Dutchman to be sacked at the end of the season, speculation over who might replace him is ramping up, and Materazzi, who spoke to Hajper, as quoted by the Metro, believes Maresca would be the perfect candidate.
"I think Liverpool would be the best fit for Enzo Maresca. He is the perfect coach to lead a rebuild at Liverpool to create a new vision for the team."
During his 18 month spell in charge of Chelsea, Maresca managed 92 matches and averaged nearly 2 points-per game.
Liverpool not the only Premier League club looking for new manager
Although Liverpool haven't officially confirmed this season will be Slot's last, it's very likely the reigning champions will look to bring in a new manager in the summer, but they wouldn't be the only club scouring the market.
Guardiola has yet to announce his long term plans at Manchester City, but after his side won the Carabao Cup last weekend, the Spaniard might be more inclined to continue in his role.
Eddie Howe's position at Newcastle United is uncertain following a backward campaign that has seen the Magpies slip into the bottom half of the table, as well as suffer an early Champions League exit.
Elsewhere, despite Michael Carrick doing an amazing job in his interim role at Manchester United, the Red Devils could still opt to hire a permanent manager, and that would put Maresca in the frame.
However, when it comes to Chelsea, with BlueCo unequivocally aligned on Liam Rosenior, one thing is for sure, Maresca won't be making a return to Stamford Bridge anytime soon.
