Chelsea's biggest problem this season has been their defence. The Blues have conceded too many goals which has cost them so, unsurprisingly, the summer will see changes made.

A new centre back is likely to arrive; one with experience and a proven record of playing in the Premier League. Chelsea are trying to sign Marcos Senesi on a free transfer and hope to have a decision soon.

There will also be a change in goal. Robert Sanchez has failed to truly establish himself as the side's number one since his move from Brighton and Hove Albion nearly three years ago.

However, despite the club being set for another busy summer, they're unlikely to sign a new goalkeeper and will instead turn to a player they already own.

Liam Rosenior wants to make Mike Penders Chelsea's first choice goalkeeper

Chelsea agreed a deal to sign Mike Penders from Genk two years ago. He has yet to play for the Blues because he was immediacy loaned to sister-club Strasbourg.

The 20-year-old Belgian has had a really impressive campaign in Ligue 1 too. He has started in all but one league game and has kept eight clean sheets.

As a result of the young keeper's development, according to TEAMtalk, Rosenior believes Penders is capable of taking the number one jersey from Sanchez next season.

The Chelsea head coach wants to welcome Penders back in time for pre-season with BlueCo already deciding that he will not be loaned out again.

Robert Sanchez won't want to play a backup role

The Blues aren't short on goalkeepers. In addition to Sanchez, the club also have Gabriel Slonina and Filip Jorgensen in their senior squad.

The problem is that none have shown they have what it takes to really cement their place at a top six club, and that has forced Rosenior to take drastic action.

Should Penders prove up to the task and make the number one spot as his own, Sanchez will find himself in a backup role with limited game time.

The 28-year-old Spaniard didn't sign with that expectation so this summer could see big questions raised over whether or not he wants to move on. Should Chelsea agree to let Sanchez leave, they'll be hoping to recoup as much of the £25 million they paid for him as possible.

During his first three years at Stamford Bridge, Sanchez, who has four years left on his contract, has made 104 appearances in all competitions.
