Chelsea travel to the Emirates on Sunday for an eagerly anticipated Premier League clash against title favourites, and London rivals, Arsenal.Â
The Blues need another win to keep within touching distance of the top four, but this weekend presents Liam Rosenior with arguably his biggest test since taking over from Enzo Maresca earlier in the season.Â
Rosenior's appointment has raised eyesbrows with critics believing the former Strasbourg boss lacks the required experience at this level.Â
His peers have so far been impressed with his ability to adapt to in-game situations though, and the latest to praise the 41-year-old has been his next opponent.Â
Mikel Arteta a big fan of Liam Rosenior's adaptabilityÂ
Having recently played a Carabao Cup semi-final across two legs — a tie Arsenal came out on top in — Arteta and Rosenior are familiar with one another.
They've never faced off in the Premier League though, and despite Arteta having the superior record, and the Gunners expected to take all three points, Arteta isn't taking anything for granted.Â
Speaking to the media, via Arsenal's official website, ahead of Sunday's blockbuster, Arteta applauded Rosenior's tactical flexibility.Â
"They've (Chelsea) done different things, they can change throughout the game. They have the players and they have a manager who is very comfortable doing that - so we're prepared, we're going to be prepared for the possible scenarios that we can face throughout the game, and try to do better than them."
Arteta's hat tip to Rosenior's adaptability is something fans shouldn't overlook. The Arsenal boss is one of the most respected tacticians in the game, so to impress him must mean Rosenior is doing something right in arguably the toughest league in the world.Â
Chelsea must prove Arteta's fears are justified
Getting a result against Arsenal hasn't been easy in recent years. The Blues haven't beat their London rivals since they claimed a 2-0 league victory in August 2021.Â
Sunday will be a tricky tie, and with Manchester United in scintillating form, the pressure on Rosenior to come away from the Emirates with something is very much on.Â
Rosenior won't just need to find a way to compete with the league leaders in the match's early stages, but he'll also need to make the right in-game calls at the right time, and with Chelsea's squad the biggest in the world, the 41-year-old needs to decide who's up for the challenge.Â
Should Chelsea get a result against Arsenal this weekend, they could leapfrog United, who host Crystal Palace earlier in the day, and move back into fourth.
