Conor Gallagher decision must be made as Boehly plans more transfers
Chelsea Football Club have literally got to make a decision on occasional captain Conor Gallagher. Will the England international eventually move to La Liga, go to a Premier League rival or stay at CFC?
In addition to Blues bosses holding back when they should probably be giving currently valuable stars higher wages, other moves are planned. Further acquisitions are on the horizon. This news comes in spite of an unprecedented transfer approach by the BlueCo cohorts. Which signings are targeted on Fulham Road at present?
More signings forecasted for Chelsea
Chels' are seldom out of mainstream media speculation. Chatter only seemed to increase when American financier Boehly fronted the takeover with his Clearlake Capital consortium. That is partially because the CFC chairman was happy to splash the cash on seemingly any footballer suggested to him.
There were times when Boehly appeared to only desire stockpiling signings. Maybe he, his peers and staff actually wished to stop Manchester United, Man City, Liverpool and the like from securing certain players. This strategy would obviously be unsafe with respect to Profit and Sustainability Rules.
The policy of only targeting exceptional youth has faded somewhat, as a couple of more experienced reinforcements arrive at Chelsea. Even though more than £1 billion has been spent by Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali at Stamford Bridge, further signings are expected. The Blues are still in the market for the most promising of prospects.
Goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, 22, is said to be on his way to the Bridge. He'll reportedly compete with Robert Sanchez for the No.1 spot. Aaron Anselmino, 19, is set to join from Boca Juniors. The defender is possibly another 'one for the future'.
Some CFC fans are rightly questioning the calibre of recruits. The starting lineup clearly remains some way off realistically challenging teams such as Arsenal or the Citizens. Boehly and Eghbali must commission at least one marquee addition, such as Napoli's Victor Osimhen.
Conor Gallagher in limbo
Predictably, Gallagher has interest from a number of prominent clubs. Tottenham Atletico Madrid are the two most frequently mentioned outfits in that regard. It has been suggested that the Englishman is not favoured by new Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca. Chels apparently request £40m from any prospective sale; £30m was previously declined.
If Gallagher is likely to stay, the Blues hierarchy can end rumours and stop heads turning by offering a reasonable contract to the impressive midfielder. The former is arguably more valuable in the CFC squad than out of it and ultimately competing against the west London side.
