Trevoh Chalobah is as close to leaving Chelsea permanently as he's ever been.
The Cobham academy graduate has been a Chelsea player since he joined the club in 2007. He has endured a tough route to the first team after experiencing multiple loans, including to Crystal Palace two seasons go.
Now facing a cross roads in his Stamford Bridge career, Chalobah must make a decision on his long term future as new manager Xabi Alonso looks to overhaul the squad ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
Como forced to withdraw Trevoh Chalobah interest
Chalobah is currently away with England at the 2026 World Cup after a late injury to Newcastle United's Tino Livramento saw the centre-back receive a late call up.
Although his focus will be on helping the Three Lions beat co-hosts Mexico in the tournament's Last 16, there is huge uncertainty over where he'll play his domestic football next season.
Chalobah has been a leading target for Cesc Fabregas' Como, but the Italians have already spent a significant amount of their budget, including over £50 million on re-signing Nico Paz from Real Madrid, and that has left them unable to meet Chelsea's £26 million price tag.
Because of this, according to journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Fabregas' side are expected to withdraw their interest in the 26-year-old.
Inter Milan now the clear favourites
Inter Milan have always been mentioned alongside Chalobah.
The Serie A giants have a long standing interest in the England international and have tried to sign him in the past. A deal has never been reached but this summer could see a different outcome.
Due to Como's inability to pay the required fee, rivals Inter Milan are now viewed as the favourites to reach an agreement with the Blues.
The Serie A giants not only missed out on new Chelsea signing Marco Palestra, but they also saw Denzel Dumfries agree to join Real Madrid earlier in the window. These two situations have freed up funds their side but also left a void in defence.
Chalobah — a very versatile defender — could certainly help ease the pressure manager Cristian Chivu with Pedulla predicting the Nerazzurri will soon offer the Chelsea man a four year contract.
Since being promoted to the Blues' first team in 2021, Chalobah, who earns £62,500-per week at Stamford Bridge, has been directly involved in 11 goals in 151 matches in all competitions.
