Which striker will Chelsea sign - Isak, Ferguson, Delap or Osimhen?
The Blues are said to be in the market for a new goalscorer. But which striker are Chelsea most likely to sign? Could it be Newcastle United centre forward Alexander Isak, Brighton & Hove Albion up-and-comer Ferguson, Ipswich Town attacker Liam Delap? Or will Galatasaray hitman Victor Osimhen finally find his way to Stamford Bridge?
We go through recent rumours on the topical subject in this article. Then we assess which type of players Enzo Maresca requires to enhance his squad and, potentially, complete his starting line-up. Finally, we recommend a signing for the west London club this January, or for the summer. So, which transfer target is nominated? And who are the media predicting to join CFC?
Chelsea must still plug gaps and improve other areas before addressing the position Nicolas Jackson thrives in
In the words of the delicate and poetical former Premier League mercenary and current pundit, Troy Deeney, "... I still think that goalkeeper [Robert Sanchez] and the defenders keep letting in poor goals". And the one-time Watford tough guy (he did have some quality, in spite of my terminology) is totally right.
Sanchez (along with some of his defenders) is probably simply not of a standard to enable the aim of Champions League placing. Nevertheless, Blues recruitment chiefs are reportedly hoping to add to the front line. That is opposed to strengthening the back line.
The Blues want more firepower - which striker is likely to sign?
Even though the Chels forwards, who are generally flying of late, were slightly wasteful against Leicester City at King Power Stadium, apparently they aren't a finished group. When other roles require attention first and foremost, focus appears to be elsewhere. It's like the unnecessary policy of acquiring too many high profile wingers and playmakers all over again.
I must admit that I didn't consider Nicolas Jackson adequately gifted in order to cover the scoring workload. Yet the Senegalese has proven many writers such as myself, as well as fans, very wrong indeed. Nonetheless, a shortlist containing a quartet of wanted men at the Bridge is currently doing the rounds with journalists.
The four-man list
Ferguson is a footballer Chelsea have supposedly tracked for sometime. Osimhen is in a similar boat, but at a different point in his career. Delap, however, is winning much acclaim and has been added.
Isak is another; the Swede's price tag might deter CFC. Osimhen, though, may be off the table if this report is accurate. Ferguson wishes for a move to the English capital; his reported fee is another eye-watering £100 million figure. Meanwhile Blues scouts monitor the impressive Delap.
