Enzo Fernandez's agent Javier Pastore has spoken to the media again and appears to have backtracked on his earlier comments.
Liam Rosenior handed the midfielder a two-game ban following suggestions he wants to leave Chelsea in favour of a move to Real Madrid while away on the most recent international break.
Fernandez missed last weekend's FA Cup quarter final against Port Vale, and although the Chelsea squad would prefer Fernandez to play in their upcoming Premier League match against Manchester City, he will remain sidelined.
Pastore branded Chelsea's sanction 'completley unfair', adding further fuel to the fire. But the former PSG midfielder now appears to have changed his tune, hinting that Chelsea's hierarchy are the ones in the driving seat.
Javier Pastore backtracks on Enzo Fernandez and reveals Chelsea 'peace talks'
Fernandez signed a deal until 2032 when he arrived from Benfica. The 25-year-old is nowhere near the end of his contract so Chelsea have the upper hand and will not be bullied into giving into the players' demands, and Pastore has finally realised that.
Revealing both parties have recently held 'peace talks', Pastore, who spoke to Top Mercato, believes him and his star client are now 'on the same wavelength' as the club.
"We are on the same wavelength with Chelsea. We made peace yesterday and the day before between Chelsea and the player. There was never really a problem. We have cleared things up.
What happened, happened. We explained to the player that, even if he did nothing wrong, he should not have said that.
He is only 25 years old. He is still young and still has things to learn. We explained to the club that he said it without any malice and that he was wrong to do so.
He naturally apologised to the club, his team-mates, the manager, the sporting director, everyone. We are all on the same page. It was simply a matter of clearing up a misunderstanding."
In other words: 'Our plan to pressure Chelsea into agreeing to a new deal or a bumper sale hasn't worked and we now how no option but to get on with it'.
We know, Javier, we know.
Poor advice could see Fernandez move agencies
We see it time and time again — former players chasing a payday long after retirement and turning to agency. It seldom works out, and instead, they quickly find out how difficult managing multi-million-pound careers can be.
How Pastore obviously advised Fernandez to handle this recent drama clearly shows he is the latest victim of inexperience at the highest level.
Currently, Pastore, who retired from playing less than three years ago, has five players, including Fernandez, on his agency's books and Chelsea's number eight is by far the biggest name.
Valued near to £100 million and among the Blues' highest-paid players, Fernandez (figuratively speaking) cannot afford for his reputation to be damaged, and certainly not by his agent, who got this one horribly wrong.
Consequently, don't be surprised if, in the next 12 months, you see reports of Fernandez ditching Pastore and moving to a different agency.
