Xabi Alonso may not have taken charge officially at Chelsea yet, but the Spaniard is already working out which players fit into his plans next season.

After confirming the departure of former head coach Liam Rosenior, the Blues announced Alonso will begin work on July 1.

There were already big questions over the futures of several first team players, including Enzo Fernandez, who wants to join Real Madrid, but Alonso's imminent arrival has added more speculation.

Another player who looks set to move on is Alejandro Garnacho. A hugely disappointing first season at Stamford Bridge which saw the winger score just one Premier League goal has thrown his future in west London into major doubt.

Xabi Alonso makes first big Chelsea decision

Following an awful period of form, according to a recent written report from the Daily Mail (via Metro), Alonso has already decided the 21-year-old is not needed next season and beyond.

Garnacho has six years left on his contract but Chelsea are rumoured to only want the £40 million they paid Manchester United for him 12 months ago.

River Plate have been linked with the young South American in recent months, but with their offer thought to only be a loan, it's unlikely Chelsea will agree.

It remains unknown what other clubs may be willing to take a gamble on the struggling Garnacho, but you'd have to assume the forward won't be inundadted with offers.

After choosing to stay in England when Manchester United wanted to get rid, it wouldn't be surprising to see the winger position himself to move to another Premier League club. He will do well to find himself a side playing European football, though.

Another three players also up for sale

There is getting away from it it. Alonso has no choice but to wield the axe this summer. The Blues absolutely must have a better campaign next time out.

The club cannot afford to go another season without any sort of European football, so returning to the Premier League's qualification spots will be the new manager's main priority.

And in a bid to turn the team's form around, improve their shocking disciplinary record and get them playing as a unit again, Alonso has already drawn up a list of outgoings.

Consequently, along with Garnacho, it is believed backup goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, centre-back Axel Disasi and one of Liam Delap, Marc Guiu or Nicolas Jackson are all set to leave this summer.
