Chelsea will go hunting in the summer transfer market for a potent striker as goalscoring issues continue to plague the Blues. Chelsea have netted just 24 goals in 25 Premier League games and are without a focal point in their attack. CFC have been linked to Napoli striker Victor Osimhen but could potentially look to even bring back Tammy Abraham from AS Roma.

Osimhen is one of the most preferred targets but Chelsea will face immense competition to sign the Nigerian ace. The Napoli forward is in the form of his life, leading the Serie A goalscoring charts with 19 goals in 21 league games. His stellar performances have been one of the driving forces for Napoli’s rise and their unchallenged domination in the Serie A this season.

With Napoli tearing apart the Italian league, it is natural for elite European sides to take notice of their individual stars and snap them if the opportunity arises. Chelsea remains one of the biggest admirers of Osimhen but they are not alone. Manchester United also want to sign the clinical striker.

Tammy Abraham could be an alternative to Victor Osimhen for Chelsea

According to Calciomercato, CFC are prepared for a tussle with Manchester United to sign the 24 year old forward. Todd Boehly is reportedly willing to double Osimhen’s wages from €4.5 million a season to €9 million a season. Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has set a mammoth price tag of £115 million for Osimhen.

With competition fierce, the Blues will also have to keep alternatives to Osimhen. CFC will have a chance to sign AS Roma forward Abraham by activating the buy-back clause. According to The Athletic, Chelsea retain their interest in the English striker. When the Blues sold Abraham to Roma in 2021, they had a buy-back clause inserted in the deal where CFC could re-sign the 25 year old striker for £70 million.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the £70 million clause is only valid for Chelsea as it is a buy-back clause but at this point no discussions have taken place between the two sides over a potential transfer. Abraham has been Roma’s main forward and has gelled in Jose Mourinho’s system with ease. The 25 year old netted 17 Serie A goals in his first season in Rome.

Abraham ended his goal tally with 27 goals in 53 games but has failed to maintain that goalscoring form this season. In 34 games, the Englishman has found the back of the net just seven times but he still continues to be an important part of Roma’s setup.

Chelsea could potentially save £45 million if they decide to sign Abraham instead of going all out for Osimhen. For Osimhen, the competition is fierce and United will push in the summer to sign Napoli forward.

The Blues will have a considerably easier path to sign Abraham as they know exactly what to pay to secure his services. Napoli president De Laurentiis is knowns as a stubborn negotiator and could up his asking price for the Nigerian forward. Abraham just seems to be a viable alternative that must be considered.
