Chelsea have completed a significant number of transfers in this window. In terms of arrivals, they have signed Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, and Jorrel Hato. Additionally, the club is pushing to the signatures of Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho. Everything seemed to be going well for the World Champions until a recent ACL injury to Levi Colwill presented a major new challenge. He could be out for the season and the Blues will now need to find a replacement.

Chelsea have been linked with several centre-backs throughout the summer, including Marc Guehi. The Cobham graduate has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League with Crystal Palace, captaining them to the FA Cup and Community Shield.

Guehi was linked with a return to Stamford Bridge earlier in the summer but those links had faded away with time. However, given the current situation, fans have been left wondering whether Chelsea will revisit the idea of signing the English international centre-back.

Recent reports suggest otherwise. According to The Telegraph, Chelsea are currently prioritising other transfer targets despite Colwill’s injury. Guehi's return is not currently on the agenda.

Chelsea are not prioritising the signing of Marc Guehi at the moment

Chelsea have already signed Hato, who can operate as a centre-back, although his primary position is left-back. In addition to him, the Blues currently have a number of other defensive options, and it seems the club believes that is sufficient for now. Josh Acheampong is another academy graduate who should be pushing for a starting spot this season.

However, the likely departure of Renato Veiga could lead to a shortage in the event of further injuries in the future. One cannot forget that the likes of Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile are injury-prone as well. If the club decides to keep the Portuguese international though, that would change the situation.

With the number of games having increased over the years, it's never a bad idea to keep backups ready and available. Chelsea already felt the need last season and had to call back Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at Crystal Palace.

We just hope that the decision not to prioritise signing a centre-back doesn't come back to haunt the club in the future. As for Levi, we wish him the best in his recovery and hope to see him back on the pitch as soon as possible.
