Chelsea have just about two more weeks to finish up the final bits of business before the summer transfer window ends. The club are still looking to bring in Xavi Simons, Alejandro Garnacho, and possibly a new centre-back as well after the injury to Levi Colwill. However, none of the deals will move forward until the Blues find new clubs for notable names like Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku.
Both of the forwards are expected to leave this summer, but as we head towards the deadline, there are still no clear destinations in sight for either of the players. Nkunku has been involved in talks with Bayern Munich recently, but they seem to be headed nowhere. Meanwhile, Jackson has also attracted interest from various clubs, but it's the same story there as well, with no clear favourites as of now.
Aston Villa remain one of the clubs keen to secure the services of the Senegal international. Now, there are some new updates regarding a deal.
Florian Plettenberg recently posted that due to FFP reasons, it’s currently not possible for Aston Villa to pay a transfer fee of over €60 million to sign Jackson. If anything, it would have to be a loan deal. But Unai Emery is keen to bring in the versatile striker.
Why Chelsea and Aston Villa should consider a swap deal involving Nicolas Jackson and Morgan Rogers
While Aston Villa's situation is perfectly clear, is there a way for them to sign Jackson from Chelsea permanently? We believe there might be a solution.
Morgan Rogers has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge since the beginning of the summer. However, owing to Aston Villa's high valuation of the player, Chelsea appear to have recently cooled their interest. That said, Emery’s desire to reunite with Jackson, who played under his management at Villarreal, could open the door again.
At just 23 years of age, Rogers has become a key part of Aston Villa’s squad. Other clubs are also monitoring him. Should Chelsea try to pull off something similar to when Ian Maatsen and Omari Kellyman switched clubs in separate deals?
All things considered, these are just some suggestions, and the likelihood of such a deal happening, at least this summer, is very slim. However, if Chelsea do go down that path, they could come out as the winner in the deal, especially if Rogers' current form is anything to go by. Of course, any such move would lead to them dropping their interest in Simons.
