Nicolas Jackson will return to Chelsea at the end of the season after a failed move to Bayern Munich.
The 24-year-old has spent this season on loan at the Allianz Arena, but playing as a backup to Harry Kane, has seen his chances limited.
Jackson has started just 10 Bundesliga matches, significantly less than the number needed to trigger his £56 million buy clause. As a result, Max Eberl confirmed recently that the Senegal international will return to West London at the end of the month.
Although Jackson is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2033, his long-term future is now very uncertain.
Chelsea hoping to bank big money for Nicolas Jackson
Everything depends on which manager the Blues agree to appoint. If that turns out to be Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola — a manager who rates Jackson — the forward may have a chance to continue. Anyone else and it looks like Chelsea will move him on.
Jackson isn't short of suitors. Among others, Newcastle United are highly interested as they look to provide Yoanne Wissa and Nick Woltemade with some much-needed competition.
But the Magpies would have to make a significant investment if they were to bring Jackson to St. James' Park, and that's because, according to The Athletic, the Blues value the striker at as much as £60 million.
Some may argue this valuation is overly ambitious, but there is no doubting Jackson has retained a lot of his value, despite Bayern Munich not triggering their £56 million buy option.
It remains unknown how the African feels about joining another Premier League side — especially one in the bottom half — but with his oppotunities likely to be limited next season under any manager other than Iraola, he may not have a choice but to accept.
Jackson may not be the only striker leaving Chelsea this summer
Despite spending billions on players, BlueCo have really struggled to find the perfect hitman.
Joao Pedro has been a rare success following his £60 million move from Brighton and Hove Albion last summer, but Liam Delap and Marc Guiu have both been major disappointments.
Guiu can barely get a game and Delap has scored just one Premier League goal all season. Consequently, both players are in with a chance of leaving, despite the latter believing he can turn things around.
Nevertheless, it's been a total disaster. Combined with the wingers' lack of contributions, it's not hard to see why the Blues have struggled to find the back of the net.
