Chelsea have undergone a major reshuffling following the change in ownership of the club. In recent years, the Blues have brought in promising players like Nicolas Jackson, Enzo Fernandez, Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo, and several others. Although most of these players have settled in at Stamford Bridge, some have failed to establish themselves.
Christopher Nkunku falls under that category. The French international joined the Blues in the summer of 2023 following an impressive season with RB Leipzig. In his debut season for the Blues, he spent a significant number of matches on the sidelines due to injury. In this campaign as well, the French player has failed to make his way into the starting eleven.
As a result, with the transfer window underway, uncertainty remains regarding Nkunku’s future at Chelsea. The Blues are reportedly trying to find a new home for the player. Clubs like Bayern Munich and Manchester United have already shown interest in the player. The club also haven’t ruled out the possibility of a swap deal involving the Frenchman and Alejandro Garnacho.
Meanwhile, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has further intensified Nkunku’s exit talks following his recent comments. As things stand, it is hard to imagine he will stay beyond this summer.
Maresca statement fuels Nkunku Chelsea exit talks
It seems that the door is open for the Frenchman to complete an exit this summer. As reported by the Express, while talking about Nkunku's uncertain future, Maresca said:
"If Christo is here with us, it is because we think he can help us and he can be with us even next season. But as you said, there are many speculations, not just about Christo, about many players.
"And then if something is going to happen, I don't know because we said many times when the transfer window is open, anything can happen in terms of players that can arrive or players that can leave."
Chelsea currently have one of the best number 10s in the world in the form of Cole Palmer. The English youngster has established himself as a key player for the Blues although many are worried about the dip in his output since the turn of the year.
Palmer's presence is another reason for Nkunku’s lack of minutes on the pitch and the situation isn’t likely to change moving forward. So the best option for the French international will be to find a new club to regain his form.
Of course, it is not just about Palmer. Nkunku has played as a striker and on the wing as well. But he was not able nail down a starting spot in any of those positions.
