Chelsea’s squad has undergone a massive overhaul in this transfer window. They have signed some major names including Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, and Jorrel Hato. Additionally, the arrival of Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho is expected before the transfer window draws to a close. Fermin Lopez is another name that has cropped up as a possible signing over the past couple of days.
Meanwhile, a number of players have departed the club as well, which include both established players and academy youngsters. While most of the transfers have been permanent, a few others are also loan spells.
On that note, another youngster has left Stamford Bridge on loan. Chelsea have officially confirmed that Aaron Anselmino has joined Borussia Dortmund on loan.
The 20-year-old centre-back, who was recently handed his debut for Chelsea by Enzo Maresca at the Club World Cup, will spend the whole season in Germany. This could be a great chance for him to find his footing in Europe.
Chelsea's Aaron Anselmino joins Borussia Dortmund on a season-long loan
Chelsea brought in Anselmino from Boca Juniors in 2024 for a fee of £16.5 million. The youngster is highly-rated but will need some time to adjust in Europe. Dortmund is a wonderful destination for the Argentine, given the Bundesliga club’s incredible record of developing players.
Chelsea recently suffered a major setback with the injury to Levi Colwill. However, the club are still going ahead with their plans to part with some of their current centre-backs, which might come as a surprise to some.
That said, the Blues already have a pretty strong lineup at the back, which was further strengthened by the arrival of Hato. Additionally, Josh Acheampong can get the opportunity to step up this season, with the player already starting in the Crystal Palace matchup. Wesley Fofana is also returning from injury and could be a key player if he stays fit.
With the transfer deadline fast approaching, Chelsea still have a few more deals to finish, especially finding clubs for Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku, both of whom don’t feature in the Blues’ plans for the future. Meanwhile, along with the deals for Simons and Garnacho, the signing of a centre-back cannot be ruled out completely, although it is highly unlikely.
