Enzo Fernandez could leave Chelsea this summer with the midfielder a candidate to join Real Madrid.
Fernandez has not been shy in his admiration for Los Blancos. An interview done earlier in the year saw Fernandez admit he'd love to live in the city of Madrid; comments that earned him a two-game ban.
And while the Blues remain adamant they won't sell on the cheap — insisting the price is £120 million and not a penny less — there is never any smoke without fire.
Chelsea waiting on Real Madrid approach for Enzo Fernandez
The 25-year-old is currently at the 2026 World Cup with Argentina as la Albiceleste prepare to defend their crown following their 2022 win in Qatar. All the talk remains on where his domestic future lies, though.
Recent confirmation that Florentino Perez has been re-elected as Real Madrid president, Real Madrid are preparing to go all out to sign Michael Olise from Bayern Munich.
Midfield is also a high priority area for the Spanish giants, though, and Fernandez is another blockbuster name they want to bring in. The Daily Mail recently reported Chelsea are 'waiting to see' if Madrid will make a formal offer.
Interest in Fernandez isn't only reserved to La Liga, though.
Manchester City are one Premier League club who have been mentioned as a possible destination, especially with Enzo Maresca preparing to succeed the recently departed Pep Guardiola.
Unsurprisingly, the Blues don't want to see their number eight line up for a domestic rival, though.
Chelsea don't want to make Noni Madueke mistake again
According to The Sun, if BlueCo do agree to let the South American midfielder leave Stamford Bridge this summer, their preference is for him to move to a club abroad.
Chelsea have been reminded of their decision to sell Noni Madueke to Arsenal last summer. That decision turned out to be a very bad one after the winger — directly involved in four league goals — helped fire the Gunners to their first title since 2003.
Unlikely to want a repeat scenario, Premier League clubs, including Manchester City, have little chance of signing Fernandez, giving the likes of Real Madrid a clear run at the 25-year-old.
During his time in west London, Fernandez, who joined the Blues from Benfica in 2023 for a then-record £106.8 million, has scored 31 goals and registered 30 assists in 169 matches in all competitions.
