An overhaul of Chelsea’s frontline is expected in the upcoming transfer window after an underwhelming season by the club’s and the fans' expectations. The Blues' attack has been misfiring for quite some time now, with Nicolas Jackson failing to establish himself as their number nine of the present and the future.
Jackson is not Chelsea's only problem at the moment. Mykhailo Mudryk, on whom Chelsea spent a huge transfer fee, tested positive for doping in December 2024 and has since been suspended indefinitely. On the other hand, there is uncertainty around the future of players like Noni Madueke, Jadon Sancho and Christopher Nkunku.
The Blues are actively trying to strengthen their frontline and believed to be particularly looking for a right-footed winger. In January this year, Chelsea reportedly showed interest in signing Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho.
Since then, Garnacho has been linked on-and-off with a move to Chelsea. However, according to recent reports, the Blues might have turned their sights elsewhere.
Chelsea make transfer decision on Man Utd's Alejandro Garnacho
According to Caught Offside, Chelsea are understood to have cooled their interest in Garnacho. Instead of the Manchester United winger, they have made Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens their top target.
Gittens has been impressive for Borussia Dortmund this season, having scored 12 goals and provided five assists in 48 matches across all competitions. These performances appear to have convinced Chelsea to pursue the 20-year-old winger.
However, bringing the youngster to Stamford Bridge wouldn’t be an easy task. Gittens is under contract with Dortmund until 2028, so Chelsea may have to pay a considerable transfer fee to acquire his signature.
The fact that various other clubs, including Newcastle United, are believed to be interested in signing Gittnes makes the transfer even more tricky. The Blues will need to act quickly if they want to sign him.
Gittens fits Chelsea’s recent transfer policy of investing in young talents. The 20-year-old English winger has the potential to become one of the best in the world.
Since the departure of club legend Eden Hazard in 2019, Chelsea have struggled with inconsistency on the left flank. Could Gittens finally be the solution if he arrives at Stamford Bridge? Only time will tell.
