Chelsea are having a busy summer. In terms of arrivals, the Blues have brought in Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens in this window, and Liam Delap before the Club World Cup. They are also being linked with a number of players who could join in the future. On the other hand, they are also focused on parting with some of the underperforming players to balance the books.
Noni Madueke and Djordje Petrovic have already decided to leave Chelsea and move to Arsenal and Bournemouth, respectively. Christopher Nkunku, Joao Felix, and possibly Nicolas Jackson, are also expected to follow a similar path.
Meanwhile, it was earlier reported that Chelsea midfielder Mathis Amougou has officially joined their sister club Strasbourg. But it looks like the youngster’s Chelsea journey might not be over yet.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Amougou joined Strasbourg on a five-year deal. Chelsea also maintain a buyback clause for the midfielder.
Chelsea maintain buyback clause for Mathis Amougou who recently moved to Strasbourg
Interestingly, Chelsea signed Amougou from St Etienne less than six months ago for a fee of around £12.5 million. But the midfielder has failed to get any significant game time at the club, playing only 22 minutes across two matches for the Blues. To be honest, this was expected, given the star-studded midfield, comprising Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, Romeo Lavia, Cole Palmer and more.
Under the new ownership, Chelsea have been known to sign young, unproven players and try to develop them into stars. However, this policy has failed on several occasions, and Amougou's exit has further highlighted its shortcomings.
That said, it’s a good thing that the player has moved to Chelsea’s sister club and that the Blues have a buyback clause. As a result, it would be easier for his return in the future if he impresses in France.
